On September 27, during the 20th Anniversary Homecoming Celebration of the CKGSB CEO Program, Kai-Fu Lee, CEO of 01.AI, emphasized that DeepSeek's pivotal contribution to the advancement of AI in China has been its role in fostering the development of an open-source ecosystem. He highlighted that, when we reflect a decade from now on why China’s AI sector managed to keep pace with the U.S., the answer will lie not merely in technological prowess but in the fact that DeepSeek pioneered the open-source movement for large-scale AI models in China. Since DeepSeek embraced open source, a multitude of domestic firms have followed suit, open-sourcing their own large models and thereby creating a dynamic and competitive environment characterized by "open-source practices and rapid innovation." According to Kai-Fu Lee, the open-source approach resonates well with the learning and adaptation styles of Chinese enterprises, playing a crucial role in bridging the AI gap between China and the United States.
