On September 24, Bloomberg broke the news that OpenAI, in partnership with Oracle and SoftBank Group, is set to invest a staggering $400 billion to construct five brand-new data centers across the United States. This strategic move is a crucial step towards achieving the previously pledged target of a $500 billion investment in AI infrastructure development, representing the most ambitious endeavor of its kind thus far. At a press conference held in Abilene, Texas, top executives from the three companies unveiled this grand plan. The new data centers are slated to be established in Texas, New Mexico, and Ohio, boasting a combined power capacity of 7 gigawatts. These additional facilities are expected to dramatically boost computing capabilities, providing robust support for a wide array of services offered by OpenAI. Among them is ChatGPT, a widely popular platform that attracts 700 million weekly users.
