On September 24, OpenAI made a significant announcement regarding its 'Stargate' data center infrastructure endeavor. Over the forthcoming three - year period, the project is set to incorporate five new sites, boasting a combined power capacity of 7 gigawatts. This announcement took place at the flagship site in Abilene, Texas, in the presence of key partners such as Oracle and SoftBank.
The newly designated sites are strategically located across the United States. They include Lordstown in Ohio; Shackelford and Milam in Texas; Doña Ana in New Mexico; and there's also an undisclosed site situated in the Midwest region.
In a blog post, OpenAI disclosed that it is actively engaged in the assessment of further potential sites. Moreover, these new additions will expedite the company's ability to fulfill its original plan ahead of the projected timeline. By the end of 2025, OpenAI anticipates an investment commitment of a staggering $500 billion, along with securing 10 gigawatts of power capacity.
