On September 16th (local time), entertainment behemoths Disney, Universal Pictures, and Warner Bros. Discovery collectively initiated legal proceedings against the Chinese artificial intelligence enterprise, MiniMax, in the Federal District Court of California. They accuse MiniMax's Conch AI service of flagrant copyright infringement. The lawsuit contends that MiniMax, without proper authorization, utilized renowned characters from these three major studios for promotional activities, disseminating them via generated content. Prior to this legal action, the studios had already urged MiniMax to cease such infringements. However, MiniMax neither replied to their requests nor implemented a reasonable safeguard mechanism.
