John Lee, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), articulated in his most recent Policy Address that Hong Kong is set to capitalize on the unique benefits of the "One Country, Two Systems" framework. This strategy will facilitate the secure and compliant cross-border transfer of data from the mainland to the Hetao Hong Kong Data Park. The overarching goal of this initiative is to bolster scientific research endeavors and foster innovation and testing in the realm of artificial intelligence (AI) applications.
Previously, Cyberport had already taken proactive steps by establishing an AI supercomputing center. Additionally, the government rolled out the "Artificial Intelligence Funding Scheme" to further support the sector. Looking ahead, within the current year, Hong Kong plans to allocate approximately 10 hectares of land in Sha Ling, situated in the North District, for the development of a data park. This land will be made available through a market tendering process, with the objective of equipping the park with state-of-the-art computing facilities. Such a move is anticipated to significantly propel the growth of the data and AI industries in the region.
