On March 13, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) declared its intention to revoke the vehicle emission regulations introduced by the Biden administration. These regulations were meant to incentivize automakers to bolster electric vehicle production. The Trump administration aims to reassess these standards, which were intended to decrease passenger vehicle emissions by approximately 50% by 2032 compared to 2027 levels. EPA projections indicate that adhering to these regulations would necessitate electric vehicles comprising 35% to 56% of new vehicle sales between 2030 and 2032.
