On Thursday evening (local time), Tesla hosted a launch event in Texas, USA, to introduce its highly anticipated next-generation Roadster sports car, which had been delayed for quite some time. Tesla CEO Elon Musk hinted on the social platform X that the new Roadster is poised to be one of the most spectacular product demonstrations to date.
The vehicle is outfitted with a cold gas thruster system, developed in collaboration with SpaceX. This system includes approximately 10 thrusters paired with a 600-liter compressed air tank, enabling the car to perform incredible feats such as brief flight, inverted hovering, and mid-air rolls. During the live demonstration, the Roadster charged up a vertical ramp, executed a mid-air flip, and landed smoothly.
The Roadster will be offered in three versions: Performance, Thrust, and Rocket. All versions provide a driving range of approximately 483 kilometers and can reach a top speed exceeding 370 km/h. The Rocket version, in particular, can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 0.59 seconds.
The car is now available for pre-order on Tesla's Chinese website, with a refundable deposit of RMB 332,000 required for the Performance version. Tesla plans to commence production in 2028, although the final pricing has not yet been announced.
