The launch of the Audi A4 e-tron has been rescheduled from mid-2028 to March 2029, primarily due to technical hurdles associated with Volkswagen Group's Scalable Systems Platform (SSP). There is also a possibility of additional delays. The postponement arises from Volkswagen's strategic decision, made during the SSP platform's development phase, to enhance the vehicle's electrical architecture by upgrading from a 12V to a 48V system. This alteration has disrupted the initial production timeline.

Originally slated for a 2026 debut, the SSP platform's introduction has now been pushed back by roughly three years. Concurrently, the number of planned platform variants has been trimmed down from eight to four. Consequently, models slated to be built on this platform, including the fully electric iterations of the Golf and T-Roc, will also see their launches postponed until 2030 or the latter part of the 2020s.

It's worth noting that the fuel-powered version of the A4 was phased out in 2024, making way for the introduction of the new A5 model.
