On September 17, the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) projected that the automotive market would enter its traditional peak consumption period known as "Golden September and Silver October" this September, accompanied by a steady rebound in customer footfall at dealerships. At present, trade-in programs and local subsidies are still in progress, bolstering the market momentum for "Golden September". Nevertheless, there remains a lack of significant improvement in consumer sentiment and underlying market conditions. This, coupled with persistent volatility and escalating fuel prices, makes it challenging for the market to replicate the robust performance of "Golden September" seen in previous years. According to the latest survey, leading automakers, which account for over 70% of total market sales, have set relatively modest retail targets for this month, with a month-on-month growth rate of less than 10%. This falls short of the typical seasonal growth observed at the end of a quarter. Automakers' enthusiasm for boosting sales has waned, and market expectations have become more grounded. Based on a thorough analysis, the retail market for narrowly defined passenger cars in September is anticipated to reach around 1.69 million units, marking a 9.7% month-on-month increase. However, due to the high base of 2.241 million units recorded during the same period last year, the year-on-year decline is expected to widen further to 24.6%. In terms of energy types, propelled by the combined effects of new vehicle deliveries and end-of-quarter sales drives, sales of new energy vehicles are forecasted to reach approximately 1.11 million units, with the retail penetration rate rising to 65.7%.
