In an article, Cui Dongshu, the Secretary-General of the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), highlighted that China's macroeconomic landscape continues to exhibit robust growth, and the automotive market is thriving, propelled by national policies aimed at stimulating consumption. It is anticipated that the national automotive market will sustain a steady trajectory in 2026, with notable recoveries expected in the truck and bus segments, which are reaping the benefits of substantial subsidies for production materials. The commercial vehicle market is undergoing structural expansion, thanks to equipment renewal subsidies. Additionally, high-subsidy initiatives are expediting the electrification process within the logistics and transportation sectors, fostering a high degree of market dynamism in commercial vehicles.
However, due to the exceptionally strong consumer policies implemented last year, there has been a contraction in policy support for 2026, marked by a significant decrease in entry-level consumer assistance programs. This has led to persistent negative growth in passenger vehicle retail sales from January to June this year, with fuel-powered passenger vehicles experiencing a particularly pronounced decline. Nevertheless, export growth has played a pivotal role in maintaining a stable sales growth rate for manufacturers in June. The new energy vehicle market demonstrated moderate performance in June, while the automotive export market continued to gain momentum, accompanied by a slight reduction in manufacturers' inventories and no signs of inventory accumulation across the industry.
