On May 30, Wu Kai, an academician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the Chief Scientist of CATL, announced at the 2026 Equipment Powerhouse Forum that once the mandatory national standard, Safety Requirements for Electric Vehicles (GB18384—2025), is officially enforced on July 1, the self-ignition rate of new energy vehicles in China is expected to drop significantly, reaching a level an order of magnitude lower than that of fuel vehicles.
