The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), in partnership with several universities, has triumphantly concluded a ground-based combustion test for a ramjet engine capable of powering a 5-Mach hypersonic aircraft. This engine, tailored for a 5-Mach experimental aircraft, employs hydrogen as its fuel source. It achieves stable combustion at scorching temperatures of 900 degrees Celsius, all the while ensuring that the internal avionics system remains at standard operational temperatures. The test rigorously assessed the thermal protection system's efficacy, the responsiveness of the control surfaces, and the combustion attributes of the ramjet engine under hypersonic flight conditions. This successful test paves the way for the realization of future trans-Pacific flights that could be completed in a mere two hours.
