At the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, Leapmotor officially unveiled its Lafa5 Ultra model. Following the press conference, Zhu Jiangming, founder of Leapmotor, engaged with the media. He noted that the automotive industry faced an overall slump in the first quarter of this year, particularly in the domestic market. However, Chinese automakers have demonstrated strong performance in overseas markets. Leapmotor’s sales in the first quarter surpassed 110,000 units, with overseas sales contributing over 40,000 units, generally meeting expectations. Since the launch of the A10 on March 26 and the D19 on April 16, Leapmotor has seen a surge in both orders and sales. April’s orders far exceeded forecasts, and the company remains confident in achieving its ambitious sales target of one million vehicles.

Germany stands out as Leapmotor’s top-performing overseas market, with particularly impressive results in Europe. This success suggests that Leapmotor’s product offerings resonate well with European consumers’ preferences. The company operates with an asset-light model overseas and anticipates its international operations becoming profitable between 2024 and 2025. At the same time, Leapmotor is progressing with local manufacturing plans, aiming to produce vehicles using the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) model at a Spanish factory in the fourth quarter of this year.

Zhu Jiangming stressed the importance of global development for the automotive industry. Leapmotor’s vehicle designs will take into account the demands of both domestic and overseas markets to streamline costs. Initially, the overseas sales target is set at a 60-40 split (domestic to overseas), gradually shifting to a 50-50 balance, and ultimately reaching a 40-60 ratio (domestic to overseas).
