On February 24, 2026, Tesla filed a lawsuit against the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), seeking to overturn a ruling regarding false advertising of the vehicle's autonomous driving capabilities. Previously, the California Office of Administrative Hearings had ruled that Tesla engaged in false advertising and stated that the DMV could suspend its vehicle production or sales permits in California. Although the DMV did not immediately take such action and instead required Tesla to revise its marketing statements, Tesla is seeking greater concessions. Tesla has renamed some of its automated driving assistance systems and now offers them solely on a subscription basis.
