On December 15, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced the approval of China's first batch of L3-level conditionally autonomous driving vehicle models for market access. Two models, suitable for urban congestion and highway sections respectively, will undergo pilot programs in designated areas of Beijing and Chongqing. Wang Ning, director of the Automotive Industry and Technology Strategy Research Center at the School of Automotive Studies, Tongji University, stated that this marks a significant step forward in China's autonomous driving development, with L3-level autonomous driving transitioning from the testing phase to the commercial application phase. The technological maturity has received authoritative recognition, demonstrating initial feasibility for mass production and laying the foundation for the development of higher-level autonomous driving.
