On December 17, it was reported that the European Commission released a package of proposals for the automotive industry on December 16, proposing to relax the original requirement of banning the sale of fuel-powered vehicles by 2035 and adjusting the zero-emission target for new cars to a 90% reduction in emissions. This move leaves room for the sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles, extended-range vehicles, mild hybrid vehicles, and internal combustion engine vehicles. The adjustment aims to balance environmental goals with the pressures of industrial transformation, allowing the continued sales of internal combustion engine vehicles using carbon-neutral synthetic fuels until 2040.
