Amid slower-than-anticipated growth in the electric vehicle market and shifts in the market landscapes of China and the United States, Porsche has opted to postpone its plans for developing high-performance electric vehicle batteries, citing a lack of economic viability. Consequently, the proposed battery factory in southern Germany has been shelved, and the related research and development achievements will now be redirected to support V4Smart. As a result of this decision, Porsche's battery division, Cellforce, will undergo a downsizing, leading to the layoff of approximately 200 employees. Some personnel and facilities from Cellforce will be integrated into Volkswagen Group's battery subsidiary, PowerCo.
