Porsche has abandoned its plans to develop high-performance electric vehicle batteries, citing a lack of economic feasibility. Amid slower-than-anticipated growth in the EV market and shifting market dynamics in China and the United States, Porsche has decided to cancel its ambitions for in-house high-performance battery production. As a result, Porsche's battery division, Cellforce, will downsize its operations and instead leverage its research and development achievements to support the Volkswagen Group and other companies. This strategic shift may lead to the layoff of approximately 200 employees at Cellforce, with the associated R&D facilities being transferred to Volkswagen Group's battery subsidiary for further utilization.
