Apple’s first-ever foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, is set to open for pre-sales at 8 PM tonight. The base price for the Chinese market is 15,999 yuan, while the top-tier 2TB model will retail for as much as 26,499 yuan, marking a new pricing benchmark for iPhones. The device will be available in two elegant color options: Starlight White and Night Sky. Featuring a book-style wide folding design, it boasts a 7.6-inch inner screen with an under-display camera and a 5.4-inch outer screen. Powered by the cutting-edge A20 Pro chip, built on TSMC’s advanced 2nm process, the iPhone Duo incorporates a titanium alloy hinge for enhanced durability. Weighing just 254 grams, the device supports eSIM technology exclusively, eschewing a physical SIM card slot. Notably, it omits a telephoto lens and Face ID, opting instead for side-mounted fingerprint recognition for security. Currently, the overall production yield rate stands at just over 60%, with mass production progressing slowly and initial stock limited. Despite this, market demand has been overwhelming, with over 2 million pre-orders placed on a single domestic e-commerce platform alone. The significant gap between supply and demand has fueled a thriving scalper market, with spot prices soaring by up to 10,000 yuan and proxy purchasing services ranging from 200 to 1,000 yuan. All pre-order slots for October 16 have already been snapped up, making the iPhone Duo the most challenging Apple phone to purchase at its original price this year.
