In the first half of 2026, global shipments of foldable smartphone panels declined by 13% year-on-year, with the market showing significant divergence. Shipments of large foldable panels increased by 35% year-on-year, raising their market share to 78%, while shipments of clamshell foldable panels plummeted by 62%. In the second quarter, shipments rose by 85% quarter-on-quarter but fell by 16% year-on-year, a fluctuation closely tied to brand new product launch schedules. Among suppliers, Samsung Display saw a 6% year-on-year increase in second-quarter shipments, capturing a 66% market share, while BOE's shipments dropped by 41%, with its market share falling to 22%. Full-year shipments are expected to grow by 23% year-on-year, with second-half shipments surging 53% sequentially and 71% year-on-year, with 61% of total annual shipments concentrated in the second half. This growth is primarily driven by Apple, whose foldable models are projected to account for 27% of annual panel shipments, with all production capacity released in the second half. In terms of brand landscape, Samsung leads with a 33% market share, seeing an 8% year-on-year increase in shipments, while Huawei holds a 25% share, experiencing a slight 6% decline. These two brands, along with another, collectively dominate 86% of the market, forming a tripartite balance of power. However, the industry landscape is set to undergo significant changes over the next four years. From 2026 to 2030, total foldable panel shipments are projected to grow by 74%, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 15%. Large foldables and multi-foldables will be the primary growth drivers, with multi-foldable panel shipments expected to surge by 179%. By 2030, Apple's foldable shipments are projected to grow by 167% compared to the second half of 2026, potentially capturing a 42% market share, while Samsung and Huawei's shares are expected to decline, reshaping the industry landscape.
