Spurred on by the growing popularity of foldable screen smartphones from Huawei and Samsung, Apple CEO Tim Cook has chosen to expedite the company’s development of foldable screen devices. Apple had already filed a patent application for foldable technology as far back as 2016. Prior to Samsung's launch of its first foldable smartphone in 2019, Apple’s core hardware team was already hard at work on relevant technologies. The project gained further momentum following Cook’s trip to Asia in 2020. Apple finally unveiled its first foldable screen smartphone at its fall event on September 10, featuring four different storage configurations. The Chinese version starts at 15,999 yuan, with pre-orders set to begin on October 16 and official sales commencing on the 23rd.
