LG Smart TVs Accused of Recording Audio in Standby Mode, Actively Scanning Local Network Devices to Collect User Data

Security researchers tested several retail versions of LG OLED TVs and found that even when the TVs appeared to be turned off, they continued to scan the home network, identify other connected devices, collect IP addresses of local network devices, nearby Wi-Fi information, and location data. They could also capture audio from the microphone and upload it once the network was restored, while running automatic content recognition to log viewing content. Additionally, webOS was found to have a remote code execution vulnerability. The research team recommends that users disconnect their LG TVs from the internet and use external streaming devices instead. Currently, LG has not yet responded to this matter.
