On June 23, Lanjing News reported that insiders have disclosed that the launch of the new Doubao AI smartphone—a collaborative effort between ZTE and ByteDance—might face delays due to complications in the filing and certification procedures. Unlike conventional smartphones, this device requires dual certifications: one from the cyberspace administration department for large-scale model filings, and another from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology for mobile terminal network access approval. ByteDance initiated the filing process in January 2026, but its initial application was rejected. Following a resubmission, the product is still pending approval. If subsequent approvals progress without further setbacks, the new device could debut as early as July or August. Regarding the supply chain, the display supplier has been switched from Tianma to BOE, the battery will feature cells from Desay Battery and ATL, and OEM manufacturing will be managed by Zhongnuo Telecom, a subsidiary of Furi Electronics.
