Following three years of intensive testing, RTINGS has unveiled updated durability test results for 102 TV models. Spanning approximately 10,000 cumulative hours of rigorous examination, OLED TVs have showcased markedly superior overall hardware reliability compared to their traditional LCD counterparts. The data reveals that 20 TVs were completely destroyed, while another 24 sustained partial damage.

Analyzing by brand, merely 1 out of 24 LG OLED TVs encountered failure, and only 1 out of 10 TCL TVs ceased functioning by the conclusion of the testing period. When it comes to backlight types, OLED TVs, which feature no backlight design (including WOLED and QD-OLED variants), exhibited the lowest failure rates. Conversely, LCD TVs equipped with edge-lit LED backlights had the highest failure rates, predominantly due to failures in the LED series connection (caused by issues in the light guide path).

The testing also uncovered that local dimming technology could enhance the reliability of LCD TVs. In contrast, IPS panels displayed higher failure rates, attributed to the absence of this technology. Regarding the correlation between price and reliability, certain budget models outperformed their high-end counterparts. However, low-cost TVs generally exhibited inferior repairability.

RTINGS underscored that OLED burn-in issues are not a significant concern during everyday use. Moreover, most TV failures transpire within the warranty period. As such, RTINGS recommends that consumers consider replacing their TVs with new models or upgrading to newer versions.
