Lately, a slew of PC gamers have voiced concerns that following the installation of the October 2025 update (KB5066835) for Windows 11, the performance of numerous games has taken a nosedive. Specifically, the frame rate in 'Assassin's Creed: Shadows' has plummeted by a staggering 33% to 50%. Games that previously ran smoothly at 120 - 140 FPS have seen their frame rates plummet to the 40 - 70 FPS range post-update, with noticeable stuttering. Upon uninstalling the update, performance swiftly reverted to its normal state. Moreover, this update has also wreaked havoc on some older computers, causing boot failures, and has led to malfunctions in USB keyboards and mice. NVIDIA has stepped in with a hotfix driver to tackle this problem, yet Microsoft has remained tight-lipped and hasn't issued an official response as of yet.
