The newly introduced default Start Menu in Windows 11 25H2 features a single-page scrolling layout and integrates category functionality. Despite users being unable to customize the grouping of apps into these categories, Microsoft has thoughtfully predefined them. Notably, the implementation of these app categories does not rely on AI or external Microsoft servers; instead, it is seamlessly managed through a 15MB JSON file that operates locally on the device. This approach ensures that users' installed app lists remain private and are not uploaded to any servers. While custom category support is currently unavailable, Microsoft has hinted at the possibility of further enhancing this feature in future updates.
