On October 17 (local time), Ukrainian President Zelensky made a statement, revealing that after conducting comparative tests in EU countries, Ukraine discovered that the speed restrictions imposed on 'Starlink' satellite communication terminals are uniquely applicable within Ukraine's borders. Presently, the speed of 'Starlink' terminals in Ukraine is capped at 161 kilometers per hour. Once this threshold is exceeded, the connection is severed, leading to a loss of control over drones that rely on the system.
To ascertain whether this was a technical glitch or a deliberate restriction, Ukraine dispatched multiple vehicles fitted with these terminals to EU countries for testing. On roads where high-speed driving is permitted, the terminals continued to operate seamlessly even when the vehicles surpassed speeds of 180 kilometers per hour.
Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine has meticulously preserved test records and evidence, firmly believing that this restriction is not a widespread technical issue but rather a premeditated action. He raised questions about the motive behind this move, speculating whether it is aimed at undermining Ukraine's defensive capabilities, thereby hindering the effective protection of frontline personnel and civilians.
