36Kr has learned from Meituan that on August 13, the inaugural version of the 'Traffic Light Stopwatch' feature, designed specifically for Meituan's food delivery riders, was officially rolled out in Beijing, with road trials now underway in select pilot areas. During the first half of this year, Meituan's delivery safety technology team carried out internal product trials on certain roads in Beijing, successfully developing a prototype for the product and setting a precedent for nationwide pilot initiatives. Presently, this innovative feature is being tested on a selection of roads in Beijing's Chaoyang District, Tongzhou District, and the Economic and Technological Development Zone. The time riders spend waiting at red lights will be tallied separately and factored into the overall delivery time frame. Meituan has announced that over 20 additional cities are currently undergoing evaluations, with plans to progressively introduce the feature in cities that fulfill the necessary criteria.
