Sources reveal that on August 15, Jung Ki-sun, Chairman of HD Hyundai Group, is set to meet with Bill Gates, founder of the U.S.-based nuclear energy firm TerraPower, in Seoul. The purpose of their meeting is to explore avenues for strengthening cooperation in the realm of small modular reactors (SMRs). This encounter marks their first meeting in seven months, following an initial meeting at the World Economic Forum held in Davos, Switzerland.

Previously, HD Hyundai made a significant investment of $30 million in TerraPower and played a pivotal role in the development of supporting equipment for TerraPower's sodium-cooled fast reactor project in Wyoming, USA. In a strategic move towards advancing the commercialization of sodium-energy reactors, the two entities signed a memorandum of understanding in March 2025. This was further solidified in May with the signing of the 'Sodium-Energy Reactor Supply Framework Agreement'.
