On July 7 (local time), the EU Court issued a ruling, dismissing Apple's appeal concerning the designations made under the Digital Markets Act (DMA). The court upheld the European Commission's decision to bring the App Store and iOS within the purview of DMA regulations, affirming Apple's designation as the 'gatekeeper' for these two services as both lawful and valid. Furthermore, the court rejected Apple's arguments regarding procedures related to iMessage. Apple retains the right to escalate its appeal to the EU's highest judicial body. This ruling mandates Apple to continue adhering to the open competition obligations outlined by the DMA and may encourage the EU to utilize the DMA to enhance its supervision of major tech platforms.
