Recently, a research team led by Professor Yang Yuanjie from the School of Physics at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) achieved a significant milestone by publishing a paper titled 'Angle Matching for Nonlinear Harmonic Generation in 3R-MoS₂/BIC Composite Metasurfaces' in Advanced Photonics, a premier journal in the field of physics. This study was spearheaded by Gaoming Sheng, a doctoral candidate from the School of Physics, who served as the first author, with Professor Yang Yuanjie and several other distinguished scholars acting as co-corresponding authors.

Focusing on the realm of nonlinear optics, the research tackles the challenge of low nonlinear conversion efficiency at the nanoscale. It introduces an innovative approach to achieve reconfigurable control over frequency conversion efficiency and dynamic tuning of far-field polarization states. This is accomplished by adjusting the rotation angle between the 3R-MoS₂ crystal and the metasurface structure. Through meticulous experimentation, the team validated the effectiveness of this method, uncovering the angular matching mechanism between the crystal's nonlinear polarization direction and the resonant mode direction. This discovery offers fresh perspectives for integrated nonlinear photonics and novel optical information processing techniques.

The research received support from several projects, including those funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, underscoring its significance and potential impact on the scientific community.
