Recently, a collaborative research and development team, formed by Dongfang Electric and the group helmed by Academician Xie Heping, has achieved a remarkable milestone in the large-scale engineering demonstration of direct seawater electrolysis for hydrogen production, eliminating the need for prior desalination. Their self-developed, innovative 110 Nm³/h split-structure system for direct seawater electrolysis aimed at hydrogen production has clocked over 1000 hours of continuous operation. This accomplishment signifies a pivotal stride toward the industrialization of this technology. This technological leap surmounts the constraints of the traditional route, which involves desalination prior to hydrogen production, and paves the way for a comprehensive development pathway for marine green hydrogen.
