E-commerce and tech behemoth Amazon has revealed that it has implemented proactive strategies to counter the activities of North Korean hackers. Earlier reports indicated that these hackers leveraged "laptop farms" located in Arizona, USA, as a launching pad to infiltrate American firms. They did so by fabricating identities for job applications, stealing data, and issuing ransom demands. Employing generative AI tools, these hackers crafted fake personas to circumvent recruitment checks and secure legitimate positions in software engineering and IT. Their actions extended beyond financial theft; they also siphoned off technological intelligence to bolster North Korea's nuclear weapons and missile development initiatives financially. The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) highlighted that this fraudulent operation encompasses thousands of North Korean IT professionals, contributing hundreds of millions of dollars in yearly revenue to North Korea.
