On August 15, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing sources with direct knowledge of the situation, that NVIDIA and OpenAI are nearing a deal to secure funding for a massive data center complex in Ohio. The two sides have restructured the transaction, with NVIDIA now set to guarantee only half of the multi-billion-dollar construction initiative. This adjustment reduces NVIDIA’s guaranteed commitment from $250 billion to under $120 billion, a strategic move aimed at alleviating investor concerns over the company’s risk exposure. The agreement is expected to be finalized as soon as this weekend, with NVIDIA providing guarantees for the initial phase—which will feature around 5 gigawatts of power capacity—while decisions on further financing will be made at a later stage.
