On August 16th, reports surfaced indicating that NVIDIA is engaged in discussions with SoftBank’s SB Energy about a potential investment of up to $3 billion. SB Energy is currently spearheading a sizable data center initiative in Ohio, USA, which is poised to supply computational power for OpenAI. It has come to light that this investment forms a segment of the broader negotiations involving NVIDIA, OpenAI, and SB Energy, aimed at securing around $100 billion in credit backing for the Ohio data center project. NVIDIA intends to commit roughly $1.5 billion upon the project’s formal agreement, with the possibility of channeling the remaining funds through SB Energy’s planned initial public offering (IPO). SB Energy is anticipated to go public as soon as September, aiming to raise a minimum of $5 billion.
