The layoffs initiated by AWS Greater China in early February have now been completed, successfully achieving a cost reduction target of approximately 20%. In total, around 150 employees have been let go, with the proportion of layoffs varying across departments. The layoffs primarily targeted second-tier departments and middle-management positions, with a particular focus on older employees who commanded higher salaries. Employees at the L7 and L6 levels were significantly impacted, while L8 executives were spared from the cuts. Notably, within the product department, certain product GTM (Go-To-Market) roles that overlapped with the functions of frontline BD (Business Development) were eliminated. The objective of this layoff is to reduce costs and enhance efficiency, streamline middle-management structures, and alleviate organizational redundancy, with L6 employees being particularly affected. Compensation packages for laid-off employees generally range from N+6 to N+8.
