On November 22, 2025, during the 2025 China '5G +' Industrial Internet Conference, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) officially kicked off a two-year commercial trial for satellite Internet of Things (IoT) services across China. This trial is designed to bolster the range of satellite communication services by providing low-speed, wide-area IoT connectivity. Such connectivity is set to cater to a variety of scenarios, including wearable gadgets and transportation vehicles. Moreover, the trial aims to create replicable business models and a robust safety regulatory framework. This, in turn, will underpin the secure and sustainable growth of emerging sectors such as commercial spaceflight and the low-altitude economy.
