Samsung's upcoming mobile baseband chip, the M2800, is set to adopt a cutting-edge 2-nanometer (2nm) manufacturing process. The development of this advanced chip is scheduled for completion by 2027, with plans to integrate it into the Galaxy S28 series smartphones in 2028. This strategic shift will not only enhance the performance of Samsung's mobile devices but also optimize its production resources. By transitioning to the 2nm process, Samsung will effectively liberate a significant portion of its 4-nanometer (4nm) production capacity. The majority of this freed-up capacity will be redirected towards the manufacturing of HBM4 base dies, a component crucial for high-performance computing and AI applications. Notably, HBM4 base die production is already consuming more than half of Samsung's total 4nm capacity, underscoring its importance in the company's manufacturing portfolio.
