Rene Haas, CEO of British chip design company Arm, stated that AI could potentially assist humanity in conquering cancer within our lifetimes. However, before that can happen, the industry must first address the chip supply issue to provide sufficient computing power for AI. Haas mentioned that the scale of demand for chips and memory from AI is unprecedented for the semiconductor industry. Moreover, the construction of a single wafer fab costs tens of billions of dollars and typically takes two to three years. He pointed out that the industry is currently in a state of 'absolute supply constraint' and expects this supply tightness to persist.
