According to automotive news outlet Electrek, Tesla has successfully recruited Gary Jiang, an industry veteran with 17 years of manufacturing expertise at Intel, to assume the role of Director at its upcoming Terafab mega chip factory. This appointment represents the first publicly disclosed executive hire for Tesla's Austin-based chip plant initiative. Gary Jiang is scheduled to commence his tenure at Tesla in June 2026. Prior to this, he played a pivotal role in overseeing equipment installation and production acceleration for Intel's cutting-edge 18A process technology.
The Terafab project, a collaborative endeavor spearheaded by Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI, is earmarked for development within the North Campus of Tesla's Texas Gigafactory. This ambitious undertaking will seamlessly integrate chip design, manufacturing, storage, advanced packaging, and testing processes. With an ambitious target of achieving a monthly production capacity of 1 million wafers, the project underscores Tesla's commitment to advancing semiconductor technology and bolstering its in-house capabilities.
