With the soaring demand for artificial intelligence (AI) chips, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company's (TSMC) 3nm production capacity is rapidly approaching its upper limit. Despite an anticipated increase in the monthly supply of 3nm wafers to around 175,000 units, this still falls short of meeting the burgeoning market demand. Amidst this scenario, even Apple, a major client of TSMC, has not been spared from the impact and has been compelled to revise its product development timeline. Originally planning to utilize the 2nm process for two generations, Apple now intends to transition to the 1.4nm process at the earliest opportunity to guarantee a reliable supply for its future iPhones and in-house developed chips.
