On June 23, reports surfaced that India’s Tata Electronics had confirmed a cyberattack. A hacker forum claimed to be in possession of over 630GB and more than 204,300 documents, which were allegedly stolen from the company. These documents are suspected to include technical specifications from Apple suppliers and manufacturing information from Tesla. Tata Electronics acknowledged that it had detected a cybersecurity vulnerability a few weeks prior and had promptly initiated emergency procedures. The company stated that the incident had not disrupted its business operations, but it declined to comment on the specific types of data that had been leaked or the extent of the impact. According to Reuters, Tata Electronics informed some employees involved in iPhone assembly operations last week. Apple is now conducting an investigation, and the hackers have reportedly demanded a ransom from Tata Electronics. In recent years, Tata Electronics has established close partnerships with international companies such as Apple and Tesla. In 2023, it acquired Wistron’s Indian factory to enter the iPhone assembly business, and in 2024, it signed a semiconductor supply agreement with Tesla.
