Japanese bathroom fixtures manufacturer TOTO anticipates that its chip-related business expenditures will exceed half of the company's total capital expenditures in the coming years, aiming to tap into new growth avenues amidst the AI boom. The company, known for producing heated toilet seats and smart toilet lids, is benefiting from an unexpected surge in demand from chip equipment manufacturers. These manufacturers are seeking TOTO's expertise in ceramic materials that can withstand dust particles, corrosive substances, and high temperatures. The global AI investment craze is driving sales growth of TOTO's chip-making materials such as electrostatic chucks, which are used to hold silicon wafers in place during chip fabrication. In the fiscal year ended March this year, TOTO's spending on semiconductor-related products accounted for 11% of its capital expenditures.
