Micron has announced that the 245TB version of its 6600 ION, the world's highest-capacity commercial SSD, has begun shipping. This product utilizes Micron's G9 (276L) 3D QLD NAND technology and is available in two form factors: U.2 and EDSFF E3.L, with a maximum power consumption of 30W. Notably, the E3.L version saves 82% of rack space compared to HDDs of the same capacity. The 245TB 6600 ION delivers exceptional performance, with sequential read speeds of up to 13.7GB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 3GB/s. A senior vice president at Micron stated that AI workloads are driving the transition of data center storage from HDDs to SSDs, and the large capacity of the 6600 ION makes it an ideal choice for modern data centers, offering operators a new way to optimize rack-level total cost of ownership (TCO).
