Reports indicate that Samsung Electronics has placed orders for more than 70 photolithography machines for the inaugural phase, PH1, of the P5 wafer fabrication cluster at its Pyeongtaek semiconductor manufacturing site. This move is in anticipation of operations kicking off in 2027. These photolithography machines are being procured from ASML and Canon, with roughly 20 units being ASML's EUV (Extreme Ultraviolet) lithography systems. The P5 PH1 facility will be dedicated to producing DRAM using the 1c nm process, as well as fabricating general-purpose memory and high-bandwidth memory (HBM).
