Recently, a notable breakthrough has been made by Professor Yilin Yi’s team from the School of Integrated Circuits at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in the realms of optical communications and optics. They have successfully launched a specialized vertical large-scale model in optics, known as Optics GPT. Their research paper, entitled "Optics GPT: The First Vertically Pre-trained Foundation Model for Optics and Optical Communications," has been selected as an OFC 2026 Post-Deadline Paper (PDP). Given the extensive application of large language models in areas such as code generation, data analysis, and automated control, Professor Yi's team has developed this vertical large-scale model, which is specifically tailored to the unique characteristics of the optical communications and optics fields. Optics GPT is designed to tackle complex problems within these domains, offering robust support for research and applications in related areas.
