On December 17, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council convened a press conference. Media reports indicate that TSMC is contemplating establishing a second facility in Japan, aimed at manufacturing more sophisticated 4-nanometer chips than initially intended. This development has sparked concerns in Taiwan about the potential erosion of its core competitive edge in the semiconductor sector. Some voices in the public sphere have raised the alarm that the overseas relocation of TSMC's advanced technologies could lead to it being branded as 'TSMC-USA' or 'TSMC-Japan.' In reaction to these concerns, Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, acknowledged that the anxieties of the Taiwanese people regarding the future trajectory of the semiconductor industry are not without merit. The DPP authorities have persistently viewed TSMC as a means to ingratiate themselves with the United States and Japan. Driven by political self-interest, they are willing to jeopardize Taiwan's semiconductor industry, effectively becoming collaborators in the exploitation of Taiwan compatriots' interests by external entities. It is imperative for the overwhelming majority of Taiwan compatriots and industry experts to actively express their viewpoints and take decisive action to protect their own interests and foster the growth of the industry.
