On December 17, the India Economic Times reported, citing sources with inside knowledge of the situation, that Apple is in the early stages of negotiating with certain Indian chip manufacturers to delve into potential partnerships for the assembly and packaging of iPhone components. The report highlights that this marks the first instance where Apple has contemplated assembling and packaging certain chips in India. At present, it remains uncertain which specific chips will undergo packaging at the Sanand facility in Gujarat. However, display chips stand out as one of the viable alternatives. Apple has initiated talks with CG Semi, a subsidiary of the Murugappa Group. This company is currently in the process of establishing an Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) plant in Sanand.
