On Wednesday, South Korea's SK Telecom and Samsung Electronics inked a memorandum of understanding, aiming to collaborate on the development of AI-powered wireless access networks (RAN) and take the lead in 6G technology innovation.
Under this agreement, both parties will embark on research and demonstration projects centered around key 6G technologies. These encompass AI-based channel estimation, distributed multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) transmission and reception technologies, along with schedulers and core network technologies rooted in AI-RAN.
SK Telecom is set to capitalize on its extensive experience in nationwide network operations. It will supply data and set up demonstration infrastructure. Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics will focus on advancing research in AI channel estimation models and distributed MIMO algorithms.
