Broadcom has officially introduced Thor Ultra, the globe's inaugural 800G AI Ethernet Network Interface Card (NIC). This cutting-edge NIC adheres to the UEC Ultra Ethernet Fabric horizontal expansion interconnection standard, facilitating seamless connectivity among diverse XPUs (Accelerated Processing Units) and empowering AI workloads with tera-scale parameters. By integrating advanced features harmonized with the UEC specifications into the conventional RDMA (Remote Direct Memory Access) technology framework, it significantly boosts the interconnection efficiency of expansive AI computing clusters. The NIC incorporates a PCIe Gen6 ×16 host interface, presenting standard PCIe CEM or OCP 3.0 form factors. It supports long-haul passive copper cable transmission and boasts the industry's lowest SerDes (Serializer/Deserializer) circuit bit error rate, setting a new benchmark for reliability and performance.
